Once a year my break lights stop working. My mechanic has changed the brake light switch every time. My mechanic also repaired a short in the wiring saying I will not have this problem again. I currently do not have any brake lights. What is the problem and why does it keep happening?

I don't know about Dodge but some cars just have bad quality switches even from the manufacturer of the vehicle (not to mention cheaper quality after market parts). DO you tow a trailer regularly or have any after market brake lights on a trailer or camper shell that could be causing the problem. I would check the amperage draw off the brake lights at the brake light switch, counting the number of lights and looking at the wattage of the bulbs it easy using the electrical law W(Watts)= E(Voltage) x I (current) to see if the electrical load is correct for the switch.
Had the brake switch replaced again and this solved the problem. Seems there are a batch of bad switches for sale.
