What is your question?
My rear end shelled out so i had a new one put in it from my local repair shop. I also just got a new camper. Pulled the camper down to my camp spot [about an hour and 15 mins away]. Got out of my truck and smelled what i thought was oil or something burning. Touched my new rear end and I almost burned my hand. I checked to make sure it was filled with gear oil [after it had cooled down]. Talked to my local repair shop and they tell me that my camper must be too heavy for my truck. Again the camper weighs 3,140lbs and from what I've researched on the internet my truck is rated to pull up 8,400 lbs. I just don't want to spend another $4,000.00 + on another rear end.

Hi, I cannot say I've ever felt a rear differential after driving - or towing. There is also no "specification" about rear differential expected temperature. Your vehicle is rated for what it's rated - gross vehicle weight and towing capacity information should be printed on the placard at the driver's door area. Verify this first. You also should check the influence of "tongue weight" of your trailer versus maximum towing capacity. If your trailer has an abnormally high amount of tongue weight, it could negatively affect the rear axles.
