What is your question?
My timing fell apart and had to replace all chains and tensioners. I had a loud ticking noise on passenger side after that. I checked valves and lifters on that side and found a slightly bent valve and non working lifter. I replaced all valves and lifters on passenger side. The ticking noise hasn't stopped but now it's difficult to isolate it and can't tell where it's coming from. And the noise is sometimes intermittent. It also now idles pretty high around 2000 rpm. I don't know where else to look so I'm wondering if I should just start over with a new motor or if it's worth looking somewhere else for the problem. Thanks. Edit: The motor is a 4.7L
What makes this problem better or worse?
The ticking noise gets louder with higher RPM
How long has your 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 had this problem?

Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with a persistent ticking noise and high idle after significant engine work on your Ram 1500. Since you've already replaced the timing components, valves, and lifters on the affected side, but the intermittent noise persists, it might be worth investigating deeper before considering a motor swap. The ticking could still be related to: Oil flow issues: Insufficient lubrication in the top end, possibly due to clogged oil passages or low oil pressure. Camshaft wear: Inspect the camshaft lobes for excessive wear or damage, especially if the lifters were previously nonfunctional. Exhaust manifold leaks: These can mimic ticking noises and worsen with RPM. Check for cracks or a loose manifold on the passenger side. The high idle might be unrelated but linked to a vacuum leak or throttle body issue, especially if the intake was disturbed during repairs. Inspect the intake manifold gasket and vacuum hoses for leaks. If none of these steps solve the problem and the motor's health is questionable, a replacement engine could be the more cost-effective solution in the long run.
