Is there a trailer hitch and wiring harness attached to the back of this vehicle?
Have you checked for power at the rear lamps? Ground? Something is interrupting one or both of those -- Time to start tracing wiring, which is why I mentioned the question about a trailer hitch or harness. That's where I would be focusing attention. Or the wiring in general, trace it back to the point where power is lost.
