new timing chain , do i still need to worry about engine problems

i just bought this car unaware of all the issues they have.. the man said he replace the timing chain, do i still need to worry about the engin blowing. it has a little put when it ideling and i can smell water burnign but its not getting hot. when im driving it drives very well.
