I have plenty of oil in it but there is a pecking noise, what could cause it ,

Hello, Has your check engine light come on as well? You said a pecking noise, would you say it is from the top or bottom of the engine? Normally, a tapping from the engine at all times is a sign of unadjusted valve lifters, but can also be,amoung 1000 other items, internal engine damage. Since the engine is finally giving you some symptoms, there is a good chance of finding the issue by scanning for codes, and a couple other tests, including compression. Also, does the engine smooth out once you press the gas pedal?
