What is your question?
I have a 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan with 46,000 miles on it, and have come to find out this spring that the air conditioner is not working. I called the dealer and was told that the car was out of warranty, and therefore they would charge me $200 just to look at the vehicle, not even diagnose the problem. It seems to me that no a/c unit on a car should last just 3 years, and I notice that 2001-2005 models have a recall on their a/c units. Can you please either suggest how I may get the dealer to fix an obviously faulty a/c unit, or tell me where to start on my own? Thanks.

I also have a 2006 Dodge Caravan with the 3.3L engine, and yes I also have 46,000 miles, and also have my a/c go out. After going through basic troubleshooting, I noticed that all it was causing the problem was the actual climate control panel. I tapped around the switch and it worked. I also noticed that if you shut you're engine off with the fan and a/c running, as soon as you restart, the a/c won't work. The light for a/c is on but the fan won't work. Th switch for you fan control tends to stick, a little tap or knock will fix it. I haven't had anymore problems with it as long as I shut my fan switch before I shut down.
This is unfortunate, especially given that there is a recall issued for earlier years. The first course of action is always to contact the dealer and see if you can get them to help you, even if the car is out of warranty. If they do not provide any help, your next step could be to contact Chrysler itself and ask for help. I don't know how responsive they are (especially these days). Some manufacturers are very proactive. Lastly, you can seek help from a competent independent shop if you are not receiving the service you want from the dealership.
I also have a 2006 Grand Caravan SXT with 50,000 miles on it. I turned on air for first time this summer and just hot air. I haven't returned to dealer since I bought it in late 2006. Never a problem. I checked fuses ok, sinspected lines where visible no sign of leaks, clutch hub turns by hand. I held onto lines and one only slightly cool other got warm. So I checked for pressure at the valve stems on both lines nothing. I have rear air so can't see lines inside. After hearing stories I'm afraid to go back to Dodge dealer. I'm retired and can't believe what ac repairs cost. A moths pay.
I bought one used in Feb. of '09. Come spring, I had the same problem. It had 46K miles, so took it to my local service shop. They told me that the problem was the rear condenser unit was prone to corrosion due to its location on the vehicle. Even with two condenser units, they share a same refrigerant, so if one leaks it all goes. I had it repaired and moved on. In Nov. I got a letter from Chrysler stating that they extended the warranty to 100K miles or the rear condenser unit. If you haven't yet, take it to the dealership now. If you already had it repaired, contact Chrysler customer service and tell them what happened. You'll need the VIN from the vehicle. They can tell you what you need to do to file a claim for reimbursement. I've filed it, but they have been in no hurry to respond.
