What is your question?
Loud sounds when idling coming from the top of the motor....when I take off the vacuum hose it stops. What could it possibly be???
What makes this problem better or worse?
Taking off the vacuum hose makes it better, when the a/c is on it is worse.
How long has your 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan had this problem?

Hi! this is Bo with Car Genius at RepairPal! Loud sounds from your 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan while idling sounds serious! It could be due to a few different issues. The Valves: One possible cause of a rattling noise in your Dodge Caravan’s engine is the valves. Over time, the clearance between the valves and their corresponding parts may become too tight or too loose, leading to a ticking or rattling noise, especially at idle. Belt Tensioner: The noise could be the belt tensioner jumping at idle. Once you get it above idle, it stops hopping and the noise goes away. A/C Compressor or Clutch: I think this is most likely the culprit nd removing the vacuum hose is simply a coincidence. The Vacuum System: Given that removing the vacuum hose seems to alleviate the problem, it’s possible that there’s an issue with the vacuum system itself. It could be a vacuum leak or a problem with one of the components that the vacuum system operates. If you have any other questions feel free to give us a call at 877-913-1554!
