2001 dodge grand caravan rear hatch lock motor does not work

installed a new motor still does not work. door will close but will not open . press button can hear motor making noise then nothing it is still locked . it will unlock with key but not open door if you remove lift arm and hold it. arm goes up and down does the motor need to be programmed
