i gave it to mechanic for timing belt/water pump replacement. he called me home to inform that Aftermarket water pump leaks and have to buy new from Dealer and hence timing belt/water pump job cost me 1040/- dollars....is this true?

There are new waterpumps available on the aftermarket however most good technicians prefer OEM quality parts. The dealer parts cost a bit more but are better quality. If he insisted on OEM parts he probably knows what he's doing.
