Hello, I’m Pete from the Car Genius team at RepairPal. I’m sorry you’re dealing with this concern on your Dodge Challenger. With the speedometer itself not working this can indicate a few different causes ranging from a failed VSS (vehicle speed sensor), VSS wiring concerns, an internal computer problem or in some cases even an internal electrical failure in the instrument gauge cluster itself. The first thing that should be done is to have the speed signal monitored on a high end scan tool to see if the computer is putting off a speed signal. If it is then this generally rules out the VSS, computer, and a wiring concern and leads more towards a failed instrument cluster. If it is not putting off a speed signal then the VSS will need to be tested as well as wiring inspected and computer signals to help determine which component is at fault and needing to be repaired or replaced. This testing is usually best to have performed by a reputable repair facility where they will have the necessary tools to perform the testing.
