Mechanic has check for leaks

Hello, If you had to recharge the system, there is certainly a leak. Not only that, but there will be debris in the system from the same location as the leak. Have a certified technician test the operation of the refrigerant cooling system, as there will likely be some sort of variance from normal pressures in the system.
mechanic says he has now found the leak in the expansion valve at the firewall, about $50 for part and 16 hours labor.
16 hours for labor? Not a chance. Find a RepairPal certified shop near you for an honest quote. The thing is, you don't have an expansion valve, you have a variable orifice valve. They do the same thing, but they are different designs. That orifice tube is located in the liquid line, and is easily accessible.
the mechanic says he found the leak was from the expansion control valve at the firewall about $50 for part and that it will take 16 hours labor to replace it. Does that sound right?
