Getting false codes. Runs fine when reset before eng lite comes back on. Why?

What is your question?

No dash items worked (speedometer, fuel, etc). Reset computer, no prob since w/that. Car starts backfiring, reset, no prob since. Just a variety of things but am tired of having to reset. Hoping not to have to get a whole new computer. Anyone know what would cause this?
