Just replaced alt. Put battery cables on and got in to start car. Noticed fog light indicator light was on and smoke coming from top of steering column. Took cables off. Fog lights have not worked for over a year. Everything worked prior to the alt install. I replaced the light switch module today and that corrected the light problems but now items mentioned do not work. Note: I took the old light switch apart and found it was full of moisture and the fog light circuit burnt. I'm guessing the moisture was causing the short in the switch. Maybe some useful info for you.
