Depending on the transmission type (manual or automatic) would be helpful. I am not even sure they make a manual trans for this car, but just in case.. If it is an AUTOMATIC transmission, then it is simply slipping. You can have your tranny rebuilt.. If it is a manual tranny then you need a new clutch..

This will also happen if the transmission fluid is low or almost empty. Happened to a friend of mine. Added correct amount of trans fluid then it was ok. Also transmission could be going bad. Check fluids oil, water,break, transmission fluids. Also if you let the windshield water res go dry the pump could stop working.
