What is your question?
replaced gas cap twice

I'm assuming you are tightening the gas cap sufficiently, but where are you purchasing the gas cap? I recommend purchasing an OEM (original equipment manufacturer) gas cap from the Chevy Dealer, or an ACDelco (OEM) cap from a reputable parts house. If this does not resolve the problem, likely you will need to have a diagnosis performed and possibly a 'smoke' test done to look for an emissions leak. Teri
I have had this problem for a year now. I have changed the cap 3 times. 2 from auto stores and 1 from Chevy dealer. I just had a switch sensor go out and the mechanic ran all the sensors and nothing on the engine light showed up. A day after having the truck repaired the "gas cap is loose again came on and the engine light came back on. I am not able to replace the solenoid and why doesn't it show up on the sensor at the repair shop.
Hooked scanner up to truck 2006 Chevy Silverado and the error code said loose gas cap. Which I found always mean a bad Vent Solenoid. It was a easy fix! Order a new vent solenoid from Amazon due to price, put it on " Check Engine" light went off no more problems. Just want to add that some vent solenoid are located in a hard place between cab and bed. In that case I had to loosen the bed and jack it up so I could get to it. Hoses: You need to make sure they are not cracked and are tight and the system is closed so no air can get in except for what the Solenoid Vent lets in. Hope this helps, good luck
I did purchase one from auto parts store, it worked for about 3 days and the engine light came back on. So I returned that one and had them order me an OEM cap from the Chevrolet dealership. That actually worked for almost 2 weeks then the light came back on and the "Tighten fuel cap" message comes on every so often. I am going to check the hoses going to the EVAP canister next.
My truck was doing same thing. Replaced gas cap and that didn't fix it. I had to replace the EVAP solenoid and fix my problem. Your on the right track now. TIP: Try to get old type solenoid about 30.00. New type is about 120.00 also you have to reroute the vent high over the top to the front of trans. Why I said to get the old type is due to the cost and it will go another 60.000 miles. I got two just in case I every need to change it again. Also be careful with taking the hoses loose. It real simple just Google it and keep ever thing clean specially the end of the hoses that slide back into the connector.
