Marks on timing chain there’s no timing chain
1 Reply
Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. On your Silverado 4.3 Vortec engine, there isn't a marked timing chain like in some engines. When setting the timing, ensure the timing marks on the crankshaft and camshaft sprockets align correctly. The crankshaft sprocket mark should point at the 12 o'clock position, and the camshaft sprocket mark should point at the 6 o'clock position to align correctly. After ensuring the alignment, you can reinstall the timing components and double-check that the marks remain in place after a few turns of the crankshaft. If you need more advice, have any other questions about your vehicle, or would like to get connected to a RepairPal Certified shop near you, we have you covered.
