The 4wd lights went out going up a hill and service 4wd light came on the dash. When I got home I cleaned the ground wires and that didn’t work along with unplugging battery and plugging it back in. The next day I change the actuator and 4wd switch by the dash. I cleaned the ground wires again and the light came on and said it was in 4wd so I pushed the 2 and then tried to put it in 4 again and it wouldn’t light up. I unplugged the battery again for 15 minutes and plugged back in then the lights quit working again and back to ground zero. Plugged a reader into the truck to see if it would throw a code and there was nothing on the 4wd. Before I went up a hill I was driving all over the mountains in 4 high and low.

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. Unfortunately it would appear that something in the transfer case or four wheel drive system has malfunctioned. As far as your code reader goes - does it pull "C" Chassis codes? Or only "P" Powertrain codes? Four wheel drive systems with malfunctions typically set C codes, which are often not detected by commercially available consumer code readers. My guess is that a "C" code may be set, but is something you have.to learn about and work to resolve. This could giver you a good clue as to what's going on. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554.
