The only u-joints on this truck are on the driveshafts and shouldn't cause a problem while turning. What you have described sounds like the transfer case may not be shifting out of 4WD. I would definitely take it to a professional and have them drive it and give you their opinion of the problem. Once you know for sure what the problem is, then you can ask for a cost to replace or repair.
