The speedometer or other instrument panel gauge may begin to work erratically at times. Our technicians tell us that the instrument cluster must be sent to a repair facility to correct this fault. The warranty has been extended on some of these units to 7 years or 70,000 miles. I have an 04 silverado crew can 4x4. My speed reads 120 at times and it has also read no oil pressure. I was told it was extended to 100,000 miles but never looked into it because my truck has over that. My first few sentence I found some where else. I was told you have to replace the whole dash board cluster and was quotes 317$. I found a site where you can send it in and they will fix it for about 50$. This may have been just the speedomater and u hae to take it apart and put bk yourself. Think the site was peg.com
There was a service bulletin issued to replace the dash cluster due to bad stepper motors. Call your local dealer. I had it done. They paid for the part, I had to cover labor. Only problem is, it has occured again and they won't cover it a second time. Good luck!
Your guage cluster may need to be re-progaamed. There are companies that do this as a service.
Oil gauge problems are very common on all 03-06 Silverados and is always caused by one of two things. The oil sending unit which you already replaced or the stepper motor which you also replaced. The oil sending unit is probably ok now, those are hard to mess up. But, the oil gauge stepper motor is very easy to install wrong and is probably the problem still. The issue is the stepper motors have to be soldered in and many people overheat the circuit board melting off the solder pads for the stepper motor (there are 4). If even one is melted off the gauge will either always stay at it's minimum reading or it's maximum reading. The good news is this can be repaired still by a technician who specializes in these.
