my tow/haul switch is stuck on...Is it controlled on a fuse by itself so that i can just pull it?

The tow/haul switch on your 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a momentary contact switch. That means the switch is normally open and closed only when depressed. Simply disconnecting the switch will not turn your tow/haul light off. You could try disconnecting the switch and momentarily grounding the light blue wire, that should signal to Powertrain Control Module to the tow/haul off state. The tow/haul switch is part of the shift lever and does not appear to be replaceable without changing the shift lever. The electrical connector is located inside the steering column covers.
My truck started doing the same thing, going into tow/haul on it's own. some times, it would disconnect on it's own the next time I went through neutral. I opened the boot at the base of the shift lever and tugged lightly on the orange colored wire, wahla! the end of the wire came out in my hand! I will work on it more next week. But, if it is a momentary contact, and the wire was worn through due to flexing (-40 here in the winter), then I will be able to spice the harness and 'get 'er done, eh!
This is what I found in a truck at work. The wire going into the shifter is a thin gauge wire and relatively stiff so as you shift the truck in and out of park to drive the wire breaks falling onto the steering column causing it to possible make contact putting the truck into Tow / Haul if you aren't towing anything just snip the ends off after you touch the end together to take it out of tow / haul and tape them so they are separated. What I did is I pulled the wire down under the column folded one wire back on its self and put heat shrink on the wire sealing the ends inside. The switch on the shifter is a momentary switch so with the truck running you can touch the two ends of the wire together and get it to go into or out of tow / haul them seal the ends so they don't touch again problem solved.
I have a 1999 Chevy Silverado short-bed 1500 and I have a similar problem with tow/haul switch. When I move the shift lever from reverse to drive I have an intermittent problem with tow/haul engaging and the light on the dash comes on. I can move the shift lever back to neutral and move it back to the drive position and get the tow/haul to dis-engage and the dash light will remain off. So, I am assuming there is a wire that is not making a good connection or there is a wire that is not grounded. Q: How do you recommend the problem be fixed? I do not need the tow/haul feature on my truck. Q: Is there a fuse specifically for the tow/haul option that can be pulled? You don't know until you ask, right?
