Code 81?

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. For code 81 - if that's the accurate code - I'm seeing a 2-3 gear shift solenoid concern. This does not condemn the part, but indicates a concern in transmission shifting. Since this doesn't really correspond with your surging and rough idle, it makes me think either it's not the right code, or your concern may not be setting any codes. I suspect more of an air, fuel, spark ratio concern that will need some troubleshooting performed. You could still have a transmission shifting issue, but that could be a separate concern.
