My ‘91 Chevy Suburban has a 350 V8, first generation FI, will not idle

What is your question?

It will not idle below 1100 rpm, I have to keep playing with the gas pedal to keep it running. Thinking back, I thought I remembered hearing the fuel pump run when I turned the ignition on but not sure. When I do keep it running, it smokes a bit. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Earl

What makes this problem better or worse?

It’ll keep running if I keep the rpm above 1100
