What is your question?
I have a 2014 chevrolet impala LS, not the police version, 3.6 liter v6, front wheel drive, factory stock as far as I can tell. There is a grinding noise in the front driver side wheel area when I am braking in reverse. Accelerating in reverse or drive, makes no unnecessary noises except when turning, and even then, only occasionaly now. I've had the rotors and brake pads replaced as well as both front wheel hub bearing assemblies replaced in the last six months. I think it may be axle related but it's not doing the usual "cv axel click". There may also be an unrelated situation with the suspension on that same wheel, clunking over potholes and small bumps. Sounds like metal to metal contact but I can't see any missing or broken parts just from removing the tires. I haven't been able to find any proper diagnosis so far. The car has 230k miles.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Moving in a straight direction, or coasting in reverse with very light braking
How long has your 2014 Chevrolet Impala Limited had this problem?
The new problem has been one week, the old noises are more than 8 months

Hi! This is Bo with Car Genius at RepairPal! I love a good mystery but not when it comes to cars, especially cars with mysterious grinding! Have you checked the clearance of the brake baking plate? If you're have some suspension noise, it could be from that as well. Maybe a loose or worn strut mount? I've even seen worn sway bar links be noisy but I don't know that I'd describe the noise as a grind. really just starting in one place and eliminating that starting point as a possibility and moving to the next is the only way to track this culprit down. You may want to recruit the help of a qualified professional! Congrats on keeping the 'Bu on the road for 230K! If you have any other questions feel free to call us at 877-913-1554!
