where is the oil sending unit located?

Most likely it's the oil pressure gauge sensor failing, assuming that the oil's up to level, in good condition and the engine doesn't make funny noises. Either install a new sender or put a test oil pressure gauge on the engine ASAP so you know that you have good oil pressure.
