Is it my transmission, transfer case or both

What is your question?

Shifts very hard with a thump from first to second gear and a bit less from second to 3rd. Can feel the shift hard in the rear only. Nothing from transmission area.

To me it sounds like a bad differential pinion bearing. However it is pretty hard to diagnose without being able to inspect and test drive it. If you have time please call and I will arrange to drive it and inspect it for possible solution. Mike Parrott 586-939-0230
