What is your question?
It starts driving kind of rough and almost feels like my cab is detaching from the bed. I have driven super slow from fear of having a wreck (survivor of tie rod breaking) . I've heard everything from it could be a wheel hub, ball bearing, & vacuum leak, ...but when I take the cap and gasket off the master cylinder and back on it runs fine for 20 or so miles. Not leaking brake fluid. Oh and I have also noticed that the muffler sounds louder. Like it sounds really good! Does that sound weird? Just put in new plugs/wires, distributor cap, and took it to the shop to have timing chain adjusted. When I picked it up the abs light was flashing 1 short flash and 1 long flash constantly. But the abs plug has been disabled for YEARS... Everything else seems alright..
What makes this problem better or worse?
Drives better after readjusting the master cylinder cap and gasket
How long has your 1992 Chevrolet C1500 had this problem?
A few weeks

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. I appreciate that you're trying to keep this vehicle together after 30 years, and that some things are not perfect. However, when you have multiple variables of things that don't work right but are somehow left to be acceptable -- it really makes it hard to narrow down what may be causing this latest concern. As a rule, the recommendation is to "fix what you know to be wrong" and then go from there. Testing should be performed to determine what is causing the ABS light to come on. Also, a good physical inspection of the steering and suspension is in order. You sure do not want to risk anything fracturing! Since you mention the master cylinder, a tiny hunch I have is that you could have a vacuum leak affecting multiple symptoms here. Although it should not matter by taking the cap off, I suppose there is potential that it could affect vacuum of the engine which can cause poor running. https://repairpal.com/auto-repair-near-me Click the link or call us at 877-913-1554. you could have worn or loose suspension or steering parts like ball joints, wheel hub bearings, or tie rod ends, especially since you already had a tie rod failure before. The fact that it drives better for a bit after messing with the master cylinder cap is unusual—sometimes reseating the cap can temporarily change brake pressure or clear a vacuum in the booster, which could affect braking feel and maybe how the ABS module (even if unplugged) is reading pressure, but it shouldn’t affect how the cab feels moving on the frame. Also, the louder muffler sound might point to an exhaust leak near the engine, which can mess with vacuum if it’s before the O2 sensors.
