REPLACED THERMOSTAT ON 90 MODEL 4X4 EXT. CAB 5.7l still overheating what next

an in law grabbed the clutch fan today as the engine was idiling and actually stopped the fan not sure how it didnt cut off his hands but could the fan not be turning fast enough anymore i have had truck for awhile now and it just started overheating on me. also it isnt blowing air out toward engine and didnt suck a piece of paper up to the coolant in front of the radiator it blew it toward the front of the truck
