Strange over heating issue.

What is your question?

Was on my way home from my dad's.a few miles in my 04 chevy Avalanche 1500 popped up saying my engine coolant was hot. I pulled off and checked my fluids I was completely oit of oil and very little coolant. I put in 5 quarts of both I started driving and my temp went to 230 and stayed my whole way home. About 25 miles. But my heater wont work it keeps blowing cold air and my temp is still really high. What could this be?
