Hi, I'm one of the auto experts on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Great question, and that's definitely an annoying situation! On your 2021 Cadillac XT5 this is most likely related to the vehicle's interior motion sensor or occupant detection system that is part of the factory alarm. Some alarm systems are designed to detect movement inside the vehicle when it's locked, and if your wife is moving around inside while the car is locked from the outside it can trigger the alarm thinking there is an unauthorized person inside the vehicle. This is actually a known quirk on several GM vehicles with this type of alarm system. The good news is that many vehicles with this feature have a way to disable the interior motion sensor without disabling the entire alarm, often through a setting in the vehicle's infotainment system or by pressing a specific button sequence on the key fob before locking. I’d recommend checking your owner's manual for the interior motion sensor settings, and if you can't find a solution a quality repair shop should be able to adjust the alarm sensitivity or settings fairly quickly.
