2013 Cadillac Escalade ESV Platinum rear automatic key fob controlled door hatch makes grating sound as rear hatch door activates, then closes just after or just before rear hatch reaches max height. usually accompanied by loud hatching/grating noise. Does this indicate shocks need replacement or does this indicate another issue?

What makes this problem better or worse?

Opening the rear hatch with the key fob, or have to manually hold it up. Indicates shocks need replacing on rear hatch
