Thanks for replying. I had it tested at BMW in San Rafael. They didn't find the leak and when water tested the door, nothing went in, yet they retaped the panel anyway.
If you know anyone really trustworthy, knowledgeable and fairly priced to work on a 1997 BMW 840 where parts need care to work with, I'd be grateful. I actually sent them links to videos to show how to remove the sunroof and the way the water traveled. It didn't help. They didn't want to remove the sunroof. So I don't know if I go to a body shop or if it's risky. I'm crazy about my car but if it leaks, I'm in trouble. Thanks all.
Sometimes the dealerships with their cost of labor and even technician knowledge of the "older" vehicles are not the best choice. There's a place in Novato called Teeters & Schacht that you might try. They are good in Marin county for water leaks from what I understand. Good luck!
