What is your question?
Car has 50,400 miles. Quote for the front differential $6,572.03 (metal shavings in the fluid, so I know this needs to be done). Quote for the upper oil pan gasket $6,247.58 for a total of $12,819.61. Car is 4 years old... Should the differential even be an issue at this mileage, and doesn't the differential have to be removed to replace the gasket, which would significantly lower the cost of the oil gasket replacement? Something seems off.

Hello, Dave here, contributing to RepairPal and providing expert advice since 2010. I have to be fully honest. If this was my vehicle, with 4+ years and 50,400 miles, I would be raising my concern to BMW for goodwill assistance. Is this a dealership that is checking the vehicle? It appears you are merely months out off the base warranty period and 400 miles out. I would appeal for goodwill as -- there's nothing to lose doing so. If that does not work, I would get a quote from another repair facility that is specialized in BMW repairs. I cannot even imagine why a front differential would fail at all, let alone at 50,000 miles.
