This right around the year the BMW went from the round-D connector under the hood to using the 16 pin OBD-II connector for everything, so I would look under the hood for the a black round plastic connector that has a round black cap threaded on the top of it. Use the BMW OEM round-D connector to access the OEM scan tool data.
There is no round plug on the E65/66. You need to use the OBD connector located in the left kick panel.A capable scanner should be able to access the needed modules from there.
