Hello, Firing of the coils is done by the powertrain control module, but knowing the 7 series, there is likely an intermediate controller or two between the powertrain control module and the coils. To save time, I'll just tell you that the 7 series was never intended to be serviced without factory diagnostic software and training. It is really a phenomenal waste of time to attempt diagnosing advanced issues at home, or even with an insufficiently trained professional. I'm not saying they are made of magic, but I am saying to consider what your time is worth on diagnosing this vehicle, do what you know how, and then send it to a independent BMW specialist. Check fuses (all), relays, wiring harness, then ship it out if you didn't uncover anything obvious.
