Why won’t the air pump run to level the car?

My car’s air pump won’t come on most of the time, causing a bounce ride!!! And it won’t level it self out? What could it be? It works sometimes? Thanks I’am talking about the stabilizing air bags on each front tire to lower and raise the car! And with out it working the cars bounces up and down really easy!
