I HAVE NEVER OWNED AN AUDI AND AM THINKING ABOUT BUYING A 2006 A6 OR 2001 A6 QUATTRO. IS HIS A SMART BUY MECHANICALLY?

The Audi A^ Quattro is a vehicle that we do not see often which is a good thing. This usually means they are well built. I seen next to no recalls on this vehicle and limited TSB. My suggestion would be having a buyers check or a pre purchase inspection done on the vehicle by a mechanic that you trust to get an idea of the overall condition of the vehicle you are looking at. There are some issues that can arise with the Audi due to poor maintenance.
