My Audi won't go into drive but goes when in neutral and car is off? Was wrong?

My Audi (automatic) won't go into no gear when I start it.But for some reason when I turn the car off it allows me to move it into neutral were im able to start it and sometime put into drive? Can you tell me what could be possibly wrong? Thanks.
