What is your question?
Gets locked in Park. When plugged into computer, it says transmission module is not communicating with the computer. When it was running just before it died, it was not shifting into gear. There was long delay and then it would engage with a loud, severe lunge - both shifting up and shifting down.
What makes this problem better or worse?
Seems worse as engine warms up.
How long has your 1999 Audi A4 Quattro had this problem?
It came on very suddenly over course of one morning.

Hello, I'd recommend having a professional perform automatic transmission system testing. What if you replace the transmission only to find there's still a concern with something controlling everything? Sure, it sounds like you could have an internal mechanical issue, but maybe the communication is a concern, as described from the "computer". As far as a cost to replace the transmission, consult local shops near you for a real world price. Too many variables in play here; you need a real world quote.
