What is your question?
Is there a sensor or sum thing that puts the car into limp mode if there is an engine issue, makes no sense, haven’t had any clutch problems at all. Literally drove car, shut it off , came back to car , restarted and car won’t move
What makes this problem better or worse?
Won’t move at all
How long has your 1997 Audi A4 Quattro had this problem?
Just happened

Hello, if your engine is running but you don't have accelerator response - which is what it sounds like to me - then you could have a throttle system related concern. This will require probably a tow to a local shop to be evaluated. I'm not aware of anything that can be resolved or bypassed in the meantime; when there's no response or the engine does not respond as desired, then it's quite probable that it's in the best long term interest of your engine that there's no such acceleration, or perhaps safety would be compromised.
