Ford Focus ignition key will not turn when removed on Ford Focus

Problem overview

Some Ford Focus owners report experiencing issues with their ignition key not turning when removed, which can stem from several potential causes. These owners have noted that a problem with the ignition cylinder could cause the key to become stuck, and replacing it with an OEM part might only provide a temporary fix. Additionally, compatibility issues with the housing that the key fits into can contribute to this problem, so verifying the part number is essential. Some owners have found that if the gear selector is not in the park position, the key removal inhibit circuit will prevent the key from being released, highlighting the importance of ensuring the gear selector is correctly positioned. To address a stuck key, some owners suggest gently tapping the end of the key with a tool like a screwdriver handle to unstick a tumbler, while others recommend lightly tapping it with a small hammer to attempt to turn it. However, if the key does turn, it is advised not to remove it immediately.
