Ford Escape engine stalls when stopped after warming up on Ford Escape

Problem overview

Some Ford Escape owners report experiencing engine stalling after warming up and coming to a stop, which may be attributed to several factors. Common reasons include issues with the fuel system, air intake system, or ignition system. A malfunctioning Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor can send erroneous signals, triggering the check engine light and causing the engine to stall. Additionally, problems with engine timing can lead to stalling and misfiring. A faulty crank position sensor may also cause stalling after the engine has warmed up, as it can fail intermittently when heated. Moreover, if the lock-up torque converter remains engaged, it can stall the engine, although resetting it may provide a temporary fix. Lastly, a faulty or seizing A/C compressor could exert pressure on the engine when hot, potentially leading to stalling, which can be tested by turning off the A/C before shutting down the engine. These issues should be carefully diagnosed and addressed to ensure proper engine operation.
