Problem overview

Some Ford Expedition owners report experiencing intermittent no crank issues accompanied by a persistent red dash light blinking. This blinking light often indicates that the Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) is disabling the vehicle, particularly if it blinks twice per second. Additionally, a weak or dead 12v battery is frequently cited as a common cause for the engine failing to crank or cranking slowly, prompting the need for a battery voltage test. Insufficient fuel entering the combustion chamber can also lead to cranking without starting, making it essential to ensure proper fuel supply. Ignition problems, such as a lack of spark, are another critical factor that can prevent the engine from starting. Furthermore, issues with the fuel system, including a faulty fuel pump or fuel pump control module, may necessitate diagnosis and replacement. Owners are also advised to check the PCM relay in the fuse box, as a worn-out relay can contribute to starting issues; swapping it with another relay can help identify if it is the source of the problem.
