Hi, my name is Devin. I am an auto repair expert with the Car Genius team here at RepairPal. So sorry to hear you're having trouble with your Renegade. Overheating and a burning smell, followed by the engine not starting, can be alarming. Given the symptoms, it's possible that the overheating could have damaged critical components, such as the cylinder head, engine block, or head gasket. Damage to these components could lead to a lack of compression, thus preventing the engine from running. The burning smell you noticed may indicate coolant getting into the cylinder and burning. You might want to start by checking the engine oil for any signs of coolant contamination (which looks like a milky substance). Also, inspect the coolant level and look for any obvious leaks. It would be best to have a mechanic perform a compression test and a leak-down test to check for any internal engine damage.
