I'm having the same issue with the oil smell. I think $600.00 is a going price to replace the valve cover gaskets. I'm going to examine and possible repair the car myself. If I repair it, I'm going to Jimmy Hayes in Island Park for a nice steak.

Oil leaking from valve covers and burnt oil smell in the cabin of the car. I got new gaskets and spark plug tube seals, It is a time consuming job, oddly the Flat rate hour rates seem to be too little to do the job. I did install new spark plugs and checked the valve adjustment. With all the parts removed it is the best time to replace the the spark plugs.

If the maintenance had been done properly, This would have not been an issue. Valve adjustment should have been done at least 2 times and then the gaskets would have been replaced

Power steering pump/belt was creating a squealing sound when turning to the right or left. The diagnosis was that the squealing noise was caused by engine oil that began dripping onto power steering belt from the rear valve cover and to correct the problem the valve cover gasket had to be replaced. It was also recommended that both front and rear gaskets be replaced at the same time. I was charged about $43 plus sales tax for the gaskets and $252 for the labor for a total of $298.
