P226A Severity
Once the vehicle's onboard system no longer detects the issue, most codes will disappear on their own. If your vehicle still has this code, however, it should be properly diagnosed to avoid a more serious problem.

Diesel vehicles have a sensor built into the fuel system to detect excessive water contamination in the fuel. There is a separate warning light "Water in Fuel" that should illuminated for the first few seconds when the engine is started and then go out. If the engine control module (PCM) cannot control the warning light, it will set code P226A.
