OBD II Fault Code

  • OBD II P0023

OBD-II Code Decreased engine performance is defined as a "B" Camshaft Position - Actuator Circuit/Open

Newer vehicles use a variable timing system to adjust the opening and closing of the Intake and Exhaust Valves to improve fuel efficiency and engine performance. The engine control module (PCM) uses actuators to move the camshaft enough to produce the requested amount of power from the engine. If the PCM determines that the valve timing is not being adjusted as requested, the PCM will set code P0023.

Decreased engine performance Symptoms

  • Decreased engine performance
  • Increased fuel consumption

Common Problems That Trigger the P0023 Code

  • Powertrain Control Module (PCM) failure
  • Variable valve timing actuator failure
  • Wiring issue
