Q: Need instructions to replace radio antenna cable on 2006 GMC Yukon XL 2500

Radio antenna broke off at base. I purchased a new base with cable and antenna and I'm looking for instructions on how to replace the cable.

Whether you have to replace the entire antenna cable or just the base, you'll need to remove the top of the dash. If you're just replacing the pedestal simply unplug it from the antenna cable on the far right side. The antenna cable unplugs from the back of the radio and is easy to replace, so I'll just cover the pedestal replacement.

Attach a fish line to the inside end of the pedestal cable and pull it from the outside. Then use the fish line to install the new pedestal cable. Realize the cable passes through the inside wall, makes a 90-degree right turn, then exits the vehicle through a very tight pulling the cable out may not be possible.

I had to remove the right fender (requires removing the hood as well) to access the grommet. The new pedestal cable should already have a grommet on it, so you can cut out the old one. No matter what you try you must put the the fish line on the old pedestal cable or you'll be hard-pressed to thread the new cable.

A Chiltons or other repair manual will show you how to accomplish these tasks and costs about $25.00.

One note...if you plan to use your old antenna make sure it fits on the new post. My 2004 Yukon antenna was too small to fit on the new post.
If u need to replace the base of the antenna u r better of taking it to the dealer and its going to cost u a lot of money
