First they are not AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIANS. Just because they can hook up a code reader to your Chevy doesn't mean they know what you need. Ask them for the PCM code. It will be a P**** something. Unless you want to drain your wallet to advance than do what they tell you!
Totally agree with the previous answer, this is a sure way to waste your time and money. I know this isn't the answer you were looking for but technicians around the country deal with this everyday and were just looking out for you. If you want instructions on how to replace the sensor, try alldatadiy.com and purchase one of their $25.00 online manuals, they are very good.
if you have a 4.3 v6 the crank position sensor is on the lower front pas side of your motor right at the 7 oclock of your crank shaft and harmonic balance pulley when looking at the front of the motor from under neath. take out one bolt and switch it out
Answer 3 is correct, you have to forgive the so called masters they tend to forget that at some point they were also just as uninformed as you are. We all have to start some where. As far as the good old days being better funnycars and rails use to get 1500 to 1700 hp on nitro and now with all the computer programing they push upwards of 3 to 5 thousand HP
I want to apoligize for my direct & blunt response. A trouble code would help you with your problem. One thing I have discovered is that, at autozone has strict orders not to clear the codes, that makes it more viable to diagnose the vehicle when a qualified tech scans the car & looks at the datastream to decide what is wrong. I wish we were still in the 80's!!!!!!
