What is your question?
The insulation and wrap is gone. My dashboard didn't show overheating but it smelled like was. After it rested for a while it started up again.
How long has your 2008 Mazda MX-5 Miata had this problem?
A few days

Hi, this is Bo, an auto expert on RepairPal's Car Genius team! Driving with a failing catalytic converter can definitely cause issues, but it's unlikely to blow your engine outright. However, a bad converter can lead to increased backpressure in the exhaust system, which may strain the engine and cause overheating or poor performance. The fact that you smelled something burning suggests that heat may be building up somewhere, possibly due to the blocked exhaust flow. If your dashboard didn't indicate overheating, it could still be worth monitoring the engine temperature and checking for any other symptoms like loss of power or unusual noises. It’s best to address the catalytic converter issue promptly. Ignoring it could lead to more significant engine problems down the line, such as warped components or even engine failure from excessive strain.
